Dinosona - TwistedDilophosaur

Description

This is something I came up with for my good friend :icontwisteddisaster: called a Dinosona. Basically it's like her fursona, only she's a dinosaur. I asked her what her favorite dino was and she said the Dilophosaurus, specifically the one from Jurassic Park with the non-existant frill on its neck. So I drew it for her. She tells me that her version's going to end up having having hair that'll cover the crest...*cough**cough* lazy *cough* :XD:

I'm going to do one of these for myself, since it's so much fun drawing it. I'm also planning on making a commission special featuring dinosonas for people who want them. They make great DeviantART ID pictures.

Before I forget, I'm going to attack this using my knowledge of Dinosaurs. Enjoy!

Dilophosaurus - Two Crest Lizard

An early Theropod Dinosaur found during the early Jurassic, Dilophosaurus was a widespread animal found throughout much of the west coast of Pangaea. Two species have been confirmed to be found; one in North America near what is now Utah and Nevada, and one further south in Antarctica. At 20 feet long, it is one of the smaller predatory dinosaurs, but it more than makes up for it with the fact that it was the biggest terrestrial predator found during its time period. Its primary features of note are the pair of crests atop its head, likely used for display against other Dilophosaurs.

Dilophosaurus is unique in that it lived during a time when lots of predators like itself had headcrests. Dinosaurs like Dilophosaurus, Monolophosaurus, and Cryolophosaurus lived together roughly during the same time and all displayed varied bone crests atop their heads. These likely were used in a similar way to Stegosaurus's spinal plates, in that they were meant for display amongst individuals and to scare off would-be competition.

It is unknown whether or not Dilophosaurus actually could spit venom as suggested by the popular book Jurassic Park by Michael Chrichton, although it is a popular mechanic in pop culture surrounding the predator.

And before anyone says otherwise, no, they did not have feathers. Period.
