Description

If your kind were spoken of in prophecy, and one of you who was half of one race and half of another was destined to bring about your destruction, what would you do?

-Angelos, Master of the White Dragonflight

Sinkraloth. He who goes by many names; the Fiery Devil, the Bane of the Earth, the Burning Shadow...all of them mean the same thing. He is the master of the Molten Dragonflight; a dragonflight of Red and Black dragon hybrids that dedicates themselves solely to the destruction of the world. He is the king of all hybrid dragons, and it is through his might that most of the world was covered in shadow. Many attribute most of the world's problems to him; the fall of the first age, when the kingdom of the Elves fell to the dragons, who took over the world and heralded a dark second age of tyranny and oppression. Some often ask if he is a herald of demons, while others say he serves a far darker master. In truth, Sinkraloth is alone. He merely wishes to see the world burn.

It wasn't always like this. Indeed, Sinkraloth's; perhaps the world's; fate would have turned out much differently had circumstances been different. Long ago, the Dragons were instructed by the gods of the pantheon to watch over the world and protect it while the Veil kept them from walking among mortals once again. Among the dragons was Angelos, the first of the Lightborn Dragonflight and the Lord of all Prophets. The youngest of the Dragon Aspects made a prediction that would shape the world that was to come; his prophecy was that a dragon born of two Flights would change the world utterly, and that it would never be the same. For that reason Vulcanus, King of the Red Dragons and lord of all Flights, declared that mating between flights was forbidden and that any and all hybrids would be forever purged.

Sinkraloth's parents knew the risks when they fell in love. When the Black Dragon, Noctromar, rescued the Red Dragon Pelegosa from an attack by trolls, the two formed a bond; bonds are not something to be trifled with among dragons. They could not be without one another, and so decided to hide away in secret - consumate their love without the knowledge of their flights. Within their deep cave they bore a clutch; a clutch born of Fire and Shadow.

But they hadn't counted on Granithol, the Earth-Shaper, master of the Granite Dragonflight. All deep places are his to see, and so he saw the forbidden act that the two had performed. With great sadness he approached their nest and commanded for them to place their own children out of their misery, lest they face the wrath of their parents (both were the son and daughter of the masters of their respective dragonflights, making Sinkraloth their grandson and, in essence, an heir to both flights). Regretfully they obeyed, and with heavy hearts crushed their eggs just before they were about to hatch.

Only one hatchling managed to escape. Sinkraloth, whose egg hatched just before Granithol's arrival, managed to slither away into the dark and witnessed his parents kill his only siblings. This would forever shape the monster that was to come; a dragon who could have all the potential for good, transformed into a beast without control simply because in the very fiber of his being he believed that it was his fate.

Thus was born Sinkraloth, the Burning Shadow, King of the Molten Dragonflight...

Oh lord, this took forever to color. And I'm still not too happy about it. The scanner wasn't too happy with it either; took forever for me to get it set up so that it looked right.

If there's one thing I'm worse at than drawing human figures, it's drawing landscapes. This is part of why I prefer drawing stuff in the style of my Zelda Art series; simply because I'm bad at making rocks look like rocks, dirt look like dirt, and water look like water. Eventually I'll get around to drawing things properly, but until then I'm pretty much stuck with disappointment. The good thing is that I managed to get the background to look like the color that I wanted. I'm loving my massive collection of crayola colored pencils.

Despite the Halcyon Mythos's complete overhaul and scrapping of a lot of its original story, I'm still using most of the characters in my other works. Sinkraloth will be featured as an antagonist in a series of novels I intend to write involving gods, fantasy, and more. I'll let you know more, but until I further flesh it out I'd rather keep it to myself. After all, I wouldn't want to disappoint everyone if it turns out I can't write it...

Until next time, me out!
