Weapons

Soulsword
"You shall make your pledges of peace, faith, and war upon this sacred Soulsword.  This hallowed weapon, forged from the shard of the great Demon Slayer, legendary blade of Narsill the Incarnate, has fought in the hand of this Chapter's greatest veterans.  It has had the honor of slaying alien beast, monsters, heretics, and demons alike.  One day, one chosen among you might become worthy enough to wield it.  Until then, thou shalt kneel before it!"
-Speech of the Soulsword

Soulswords are considered to be by far the greatest achievement of humanity.  Undoubtedly the first Soulsword was none other than the fabled Demon Slayer itself, the legendary holy blade of Narsill the Incarnate which pierced the Heart of Zarkros at least ten millennia ago on Terra, signifying the beginning of the First Age of Mankind.  That same sword has since become a broken blade; shattered into thousands of fragments upon the conclusion of the Cain Sundering, that dark time when heresy became rampant upon Humanity and led to the untimely death of Narsill the Incarnate and the reforging of the Fallen Kingdoms of Man.  To preserve the sword and to give faith to those who would otherwise be hopeless in the face of defeat, the fragments were sent to the Ecclesiarchy and the Technopathica, where they were used to forge the legendary Soulswords themselves.
A Soulsword, when first drawn, appears to be nothing but a single, empty hilt of what would otherwise be a magnificent blade.  This is by far not the case, as the design ensures that the shard itself is kept intact and protected when not in use, as well as preserve the blade's own portability.  The actual blade in this state comes in the form of a very compact metallic liquid that resides inside of the hilt under extreme pressure, with the shard in the center of this liquid.  The blade is activated at the touch of a button, which causes a force field to instantly encompass the exact edge of this blade when it reaches full length.  The compact liquid then spurts forth evenly, glowing with extreme heat as it extends the entire length of the force field before the field's energy instantly cools it, creating a perfect blade.  The shard extends out to whatever piece of the original blade it once belonged, ranging anywhere from the base of the hilt to the very tip of the sword.  It is unknown how exactly it does this, though it is believed that perhaps the spirit of the original Demon Slayer still resides in each individual shard, giving the shards their ability to remember which part of the blade they once resided in.
All true Soulswords glow a bright blue upon their activation.  This is in part a combination of the force field, which still is in partial activation to ensure the blade's protection, and the actual shard itself, which extends its own glow throughout the metal of the blade.  The original Demon Slayer was heralded to glow a tremendously bright blue whenever demonic activity was rampant, and its surface became almost like pure light upon piercing the tainted flesh of anything heretical, be it demonic or otherwise.  When a Soulsword is in use, its very presence alone is enough to raise the morale of all who see it and believe in the power of the Maker.  Space Warriors who have otherwise fallen back to recover their losses will rush forward with renewed strength, Guardsmen will cast aside their fear and bring their weapons to bear, even Psykers, who would otherwise be far too withdrawn from the mental images and psychic screams of battle, will rise renewed in spirit and mind and return to the battlefield with purpose upon seeing the beautiful blade in its full glory.
When a Soulsword is in use, they tend to have varied effects depending upon the individual.  A single Soulsword, when used correctly, can function as any normal blade can save for a few differences.  The force field surrounding the blade acts as a hardener for the blade, ensuring that blows upon its surface that would otherwise shatter any normal melee weapon from the stress can be shrugged off as if it never happened.  The blade's also extreme sharpness ensures that even armor can be pierced by its slender grace.  If that weren't enough, to top it off every Soulsword with a shard of Demon Slayer gains the original's properties to a fraction, meaning that they can launch holy powers into an enemy and shatter their souls into oblivion.  This means that to any demon regardless of size or strength, a stab from Demon Slayer is guaranteed to be lethal, while heretics are forever marred by pain from the weapon's holy might.
Of course, not all Soulswords can have the honor of holding a shard of Demon Slayer within them.  Most, especially those used by standard churches as holy relics, are replicas that accomplish the same goals but do not nearly have as much holy power or standing as the true relics.  Given the fact that they are also rare and very precious relics, almost all Soulswords owned by Space Warriors are kept upon their headquarter worlds within their mighty Castle Cathedrals or Fortress Monasteries, only brought into battle in the direst of circumstances.  The original Prime 13 chapters each bear at least one Soulsword per company out of their standing in the past as legions and progenitor Chapters, though all other chapters are only allowed a single Soulsword, with some being unable to bear any at all.  It because of the rarity of these weapons that the Inquisition jealously guards the Soulswords of humanity, and often enough they send squadrons of Paladins, the holiest of all holy Space Warriors, to worlds once long lost to humanity in order to reacquire lost Soulswords from battlefields past, regardless of the danger to themselves or the rest of humankind.  If a single shard of Demon Slayer becomes corrupted, should the sword eventually become reforged the corruption would stain its own blade, and its power would forever be broken.

Assault Rifle
The Mark IV Standard Caliber Space Warrior Assault Rifle has been the chosen Space Warrior ranged weapon for the entire four thousand years of their existence.  A single Assault Rifle bears two important factors; versatility and brutality.  The simple box-like design of the rifle bears parts that can be interchangeable and easily replaceable.  The barrel can be lengthened for accuracy or shortened for the sake of bullet spread.  A single Assault Rifle bears two different forms of ammunition; the secondary ammunition, designed for convenience, is the same used by standard Guardsmen weaponry; designed to eliminate foes with lesser armor and defenses and be easily replaceable.  Their standard ammunition is a powerful assault round that is designed to pierce through ceramite and explode upon contact, peppering foes with miniature explosions that tear through organs and ruin muscle and bone.
The Assault Rifles can be reconfigured in a variety of ways to ensure maximum usage as well as for the convenience of mass production; it is far easier to create a massive amount of parts for a single chassis that can be interchangeable than to create multitudes of different guns that can do the same job.  Assault Rifles are also very heavy weapons; an average human will find difficulty picking them up and wielding them effectively without the aid of a stand.  The most common and popular conversions for an Assault Rifle includes a precision variant, a shotgun variant, and even a grenade launcher variant, ensuring that each chapter has maximum versatility per squadron without the reliance of specialized tactical squads such as Adamants or Assault Troopers.

Hellfire Pistol
The original design for the Mark VII Hellfire Personnel Weapon has been around far longer than its popular users have been.  Hellfires saw action during the great Reckoning Wars on Terra long ago, and their versatile and very effective design has seen their use for at least six thousand years.  What makes them so reliable is their combination of renowned accuracy, quick trigger, and the ability to load almost any kind of ammunition through the use of an adaptable cartridge inside the action, meaning that even modern ammunition of the 11th Millennium can be used by this antique design.
Hellfire Pistols are most widely used by individuals who prefer to use melee weapons.  This is because the Hellfire is an easy weapon to practice and get used to using in an individual's less dominant hand, primarily because the pistol is light, easy to manage, and accurate enough that even by pointing the weapon in the general direction of the foe a grazing blow is possible.  The pistol's primary use for said individuals is in the form of providing a ranged advantage under cover for those troops who are otherwise confined to close-quarters combat.
The side-effect to such an effective weapon being in existence for so long and in such quantity is that other races have jumped the bandwagon and learned how to make said weapons as well.  Orcs and several races in the Kingdoms of Flame in particular have discovered how to use the unique cartridge in the Hellfire Pistol's action in order to wrap around any ammunition, allowing for both groups the ability to salvage ammunition that is otherwise worthless on the battlefield when ammunition is running low.  As a result, the pistol has received an affectionate but otherwise appropriate nickname; the Weapons Whore.  Despite this, the Hellfire's assets far outweigh its liabilities, which is why it still remains the single most popular and most-used small-arms weapon in humanity's history.

Vulcan Hammer
Never has such a melee weapon been so feared by the enemies of man as the Vulcan Hammer.  Named after the man who designed the hammer, Vulcan de Leon – successor High Templar to the late Gabriel de Leon, the hammer is as every bit as formidable as its reputation describes it.  The weapon has earned its respect in the Kingdom of Men, and is used widespread by many different Space Warrior Chapters and their squadrons for the past 4,000 years since its forging.
The Vulcan Hammer is essentially a large block of metal; a foot long with a six inch width and height, built using several different pieces that are all kept clamped together using powerful and effective machinery.  The hammer is made out of several different metallic alloys that give it different unique purposes; mithril for the sake of sturdiness, ceramite for increased weight and resistance to extremes, and adamantium for the sake of indestructibility.  This combination of alloys gives the hammer a very dark, volcanic color.  The weapon as a whole weighs half a ton, designed only for the use of Space Warriors and their counterparts.
The usage of the Vulcan Hammer is like any other melee weapon; its immense size and bulk means that with just one swing the bones of anything it strikes can break, ensuring that a single strike is usually all that is needed to kill any target that isn't heavily armored or hiding behind an immense, three-foot thick wall of titanium steel.  To top it off, the weapon's ends bristle with force shielding, adding to the impact of any strike with extreme intensity.  However, what truly makes these weapons so lethal is their means of assurance that any target will stay dead.
Inside of the Vulcan Hammer is a small, hollow chamber which contains several compact devices that store liquid iron heated at great extremes.  When the weapon is brought to impact with a target, special gaps and smooth edges in the hammer's construction allow for the metal to seep out, engulfing the foe in liquid flame.  This means that those protected by thick enough armor that a glancing blow merely wounds them are soon doused with liquid fire that seeps through any gaps or cracks in the armor and bakes them alive.  While Vulcan Hammers can run out of liquid fire, there is enough inside to be used to fill in enough molds to build an entire standard Oliphant APC with all of its components regardless if they are made of metal or not.  Vulcan Hammers, thanks to their ability to bring death to anything that they strike, have sometimes earned the nickname Hellhammers by those who witness the giant weapons in action.
This is probably going to be the last Codex Entry for my Space Warriors (unless I plan on making a wiki or something sometime in the far, but very real, future). In this particular one, we look at four of the most popular weapons among Space Warrior commanders and troops alike, ranging from the most holy Soulsword to the very potent Vulcan Hammer. Each of these weapons play a special role in Space Warrior combat, and they are all more than physically capable of bringing down enemy forces in a single blow.

Soulswords were concieved at the same time as We are Warriors 10,000 was first being developed. Although technically older than the Space Warriors that use them, Soulswords are basically what you get when you have a Star Wars fan try to design a weapon; their original inspiration were lightsabers, which could extend and end with a blade that looked like a regular medieval-style longsword. The difference was that they were actually made of metal, so highly pressurized liquids were used in the process of using the blade. Sure, it may defy the laws of physics on many levels, but it works. I'm happy with that.

Assault Rifles are more on the style of Halo Assault Rifles than Bolters. This is because for the longest time I wanted to make a Space Marine-inspired gametype on the game Halo 3, where four players fought against an onslaught of infected players that act as very speedy and very effective Tyranids. Of course, there were problems with this; for example I didn't have any forging skills at the time; but it was a great idea nonetheless, and I could never dispel the image of a Space Marine carrying a Halo-esque Assault Rifle since. In any case, Assault Rifles take on a simlar role as the Halo weapon that inspired them; they have two forms of ammunition, one designed for more fleshy, weak targets such as humans and the like, while the other was the standard ammunition that fits with the epicosity of the Space Warriors; miniature grenades that blow shit up.

Hellfire Pistols were difficult to come up with. Initially a filler weapon meant to give Space Warriors and Guardsmen a light firearm, Hellfires have grown on me to the point that I actually came up with some great backstory to them. Far older than even the spacefaring Space Warriors that use them, Hellfire Pistols are basically the one weapon that can use virtually any kind of ammunition. While that may not seem like much, for those of you who have played FPS games and have run short on ammo you'll know that this weapon is a blessing (whenever I play the Halo campaigns I purposefully grab covenant weapons early on to conserve my own priceless ammunition until the next spot with human weaponry). While it is a good strategy and has made the light but very effective firearm popular enough that it puts our AK-47's to shame, it has a simple flaw; it's easiness to use makes it a gold mine for pirates, some of the more stupid aliens, trolls, orcs, and even occasionally Yoshunaga who are interested in trying out human technology. This has given it a nickname which I think suits it; the Weapons Whore.

Power weapons are very popular amongst most science fiction genres, Warhammer and Star Wars included (Star Wars has vibro weapons, which I count for power weapons because both do the same thing). While Star Wars doesn't have anything hammer based to work on for inspiration, Warhammer does, and having a hammer that can spew lightning is way too cliche. So I began to think, what could I do to make a more effective and just as epic hammer without using another Warhammer reference? Use fire of course. Weapons that are heat based in most science fiction storylines focus upon spewing fire like Flamethrowers; why not a fire-based melee weapon? Kind of like what you'd expect to find in a fantasy setting, Vulcan Hammers do just that. Sure, it can cause damage to the individual using it if he isn't careful enough, but what weapons don't? Besides; if you happen to be a very disciplined individual like the Space Warriors, you'll know when it's best to strike and turn on the fire, and when it's best to keep it shut and just use the regular hammer.

Actually the Soulswored isn't as physic defying as you might think. Look up the Thanix Cannon in Mass Effect 2

And what you said about the Hellfire Pistol reminded me of a similar occurence in my setting. It is illegal to trade or even possess Federation weapons tech, to the point that they will kill you just for breathing on them at the arms-dealer's display. But, there is a way to prevent theft: first, every weapon is ID keyed, only the registered user can operate it and it's impossible to fake. Second (and this is the fun one) the Wolfe family, being the owners of the compnay that make evrything for the military, has a master override code that locks out any control other than them. Neat huh
