Description

Bats often scare people in Hyrule. Scholars remind them all that you shouldn’t be afraid of bats, seeing as the small, flying rodents would never harm you and are more likely to eat bugs than your blood. It’s the big brothers of bats that one should be worried about, and the most common of these fliers of the night is the Keese.

Keese are bat-like at first glance, but are deadlier, and tend to hunt creatures far larger than themselves. In a pack, they attack like flying piranhas, and will devour a dead cow or a horse within an hour on their own, leaving nothing but bones and the bit of marrow that their nimble mouths couldn’t reach. On their own, a single Keese will often pick on something as big as a house cat, or even a dog. Indeed, the large, feline-sized bats have often picked on travelers who wander about under the dark skies at night, and injuries ranging from bites to scratches to infections all across the body are attributed to these creatures.

It is hard to believe it, but Keese are actually natural creatures found in the darkness of the night sky. One could only assume that these hunters of Hyrule were just a step up after bats in the nocturnal food chain. No magic was involved with their creation, unlike the notorious Aches of Kakariko and their Terminian counterparts, Bad Bats. Keese are just basically the hawks of the night…they just happen to be a bit more vigorous in their hunting strategy than birds are.

Although Keese are ferocious at best, they often tend to be docile when having limited contact to Hylians. However, wizards find that simple spells can be used to control these bats; ensure that they are more active and hunt good creatures or heroes, while completely ignoring their wizard masters and their henchmen. The good news is that Keese don’t necessarily have any loyalty to their masters, and they are small enough that they are only a minor threat compared to the other creatures in general. Indeed, all you need to do to drive them off is whack a sword at them. It’s a good thing that none of these creatures can grow to a much bigger size, or Hylians would be in real trouble!

The first of the next wave of pics. Since I haven't finished a couple, this one will take longer to post, and even longer than that if I can't find this stupid printer/scanner. *insert anger here* Anyway, here's the first of the Hyrule Field section. I'll be drawing landscapes soon to mark the beginnings of each section of drawings. Hope you all liked it!
