Dead Space: Shadows by Kerian-halcyon Dead Space: Shadows by Kerian-halcyon
EDIT! Please read!

This, along with my other Dead Space Shadows deviation, has become my most popular deviation to date. I would like to let everyone know, as of today, I'm not currently writing or planning on writing Dead Space: Shadows until further notice. That doesn't mean it won't happen, but it does mean that you probably shouldn't expect it anytime this year (I might be nice and post what I currently have written this Halloween, but that would probably mean all the more that I'll take longer to write it).

I really appreciate the favs and the views, but if you happen to stumble upon this I'd really appreciate it if you took the time to look at my other stuff that I'm working on. Thanks for your time.

End of Edit

...This holy relic will bring about the promised immortality ordained to us by our god. Altman be praised!

So, the secret is out. Here's some promotional artwork for a little project I'm working on in my spare time. With my mind having difficulty keeping interested in my current projects, I felt that it would be a good idea to start something new just to keep my mind focused upon writing...

Anyway, Dead Space Shadows is a prequel fanfic of none other than EA's popular game called Dead Space. Taking place roughly around the time of Dead Space Extraction, Shadows is the story of a young man named David Payton, one of the few Catholics left in existence after the Unitology craze 200 years earlier, as he and a group of survivors escapes the Aegis VII colony during the Necromorph attack. Stuck aboard the USG Ishimura, the survivors are picked off one by one in attacks from Necromorphs, fellow survivors, and each other until finally they find and repair a shuttle that they use to escape the Ishimura once and for all.

This story is going to have some backstory about the Necromorphs and the story of Dead Space Extraction, such as how the Necromorphs managed to develop just a week after the Marker was extracted, the Hive Mind's influence upon the mental dementia the colonists were facing, and the reason why Lexine Murdoch from Extraction is immune to it. So far, I'm working on a big introduction, but there's only going to be a total of about 9 chapters (introduction not included) in the story. I'm probably not going to update it very often, but the story will be big enough that it'll certainly keep people entertained while it's posted. I'll be posting it both here on DeviantART (in parts so that it doesn't get too big) and on (in its unaltered form)...

Edit: Dear lord...this has got to be my most popular deviant, and it's just a poster for a project that hasn't even started yet! This makes me kind of upset that most of my stuff is Zelda and yet more people like the few Dead Space items I've put

I'm gonna write a Finfiction about Dead Space, it's gonna be titled "Dead Void". It's gonna feature OC's mostly, and some canon characters. If anyone has Dead Space OC's, I could include them in the fic.

After staring at this for a full five minutes, I finally noticed that it said 'make us whole' on there.

But awesome poster, it's simple but still effective (and creepy).
I think it's the glowy blue colour that makes it so good. :'D

Thanks! I still have to work on this project. I really enjoy the Dead Space games a lot, regardless of how creepy/disturbing they are, and they are quite inspiring for horror stories. I couldn't help but decide to make a fanfic of the

The games really are quite scary (especially Dead Space 2 - especially Nicole's glowing eyes), but that just makes me love 'em more. xD

I've always wanted to write a fanfic for Dead Space, but I'm worried that my not-so-excellent writing skills will ruin the whole scary, unstable atmosphere of it and I'll end up disappointed and with piles of not-done homework. :C

One good thing I've found about fanfics is that you can always write them for the sake of fun. However, it can also be a learning experience. I've been writing a Legend of Zelda fanfic for over a year now, and it's changed a lot since its beginnings. You would be able to tell if it was the same if I showed you the beginning and the end seperately. I've been planning to revise it and even post it here on DeviantART for a wider fanbase...

If you do think about writing a fanfic, go at it whenever you have spare time. If you feel that it's not worthy for the internet, at least keep it for yourself so that you can look it over in the future, try to fix it up a bit, and then decide whether or not you should post it. That's pretty much the best advice I can give on that matter...

I've noticed that about my own writing, when I read over what I'd written a few years ago. It's a mixture of wanting to cry at how awful it is, and wanting to laugh because I know I'm so much better now. You can try and post it on, I think there's a large fanbase there...

Oh, thank you. Somehow, this made me feel a lot better about myself, and I don't even know why. Hmmm... I think I actually will write that thing. Once I find a nice gap of time to work in, and a good way to start it.

I have already. For a year now...ever hear of Legacy of the Sages? I dare you to find a bigger fanfic on the whole :D To begin with, it's terrible. That's why I'm revising it and posting it here on DeviantART. It's a way of getting more attention to my writing...

You're quite welcome. I noticed I have the ability to do that...It's a rather helpful gift, actually...

I should have seen this coming.

And by the way, Unitology didn't replace older faiths, they're still around, Unitology is just equal to them. At least in the number of followers.

I have a similar religion in my Sci-Fi 'verse, ask about it sometime.
Kerian-halcyon Featured By Owner Nov 29, 2010  Hobbyist Writer
Actually by that time most of the old religions had gone away. The period was filled with a large amount of spiritual upset; most people felt as if they couldn't live on, and the other older religions weren't providing what they wanted. Unitology changed that and effectively took place as one of the largest religions in history (it was also the fastest to grow, with hundreds of thousands of members converted in only 200 years).

Pretty sweet cover. The outlines of the text radiating from the messages remind me of Earthbound, which can only be a good thing, and I like how they grow darker as they go, eventually fading into the black background like a faint glimmer of hope that's snuffed out by the darkness. I think I need to actually play Dead Space before I can fully appreciate it, though, lol

The fading was actually a bit of a surprise. I was experimenting a bit and it ended up like that. Turned out great though, even though it's not the actual cover. The actual cover's a bit different, but still just as spooky...muahahaha!!
